2022 Clarksburg Fiano
Tasting Notes
Fermented in neutral French oak barrels with native yeast and allowed to age on the lees for 8 months, our 2021 Fiano has a deeply textured bouquet of lemon meringue, pineapple, citrus rind, green apple, stone fruit and subtle minerality, with notes of gooseberry and honey suckle. Broad and rich on the palate, with excellent acidity and a firm, crisp finish. While our 2021 Fiano makes a delicious aperitif and good companion in the kitchen while cooking, it is also a formidable food pairing wine; get creative with a variety of dishes including grilled prawns, linguine with scallops, mussels or clams, spicy rice bowls and seafood chowders.
Winemaking Notes
A grape with a storied history dating back to Roman and possibly even Greek times, Fiano has been cultivated in the hills above the small town of Avellino, 30 miles North-East of Naples for many hundreds of years. In California it is exceedingly rare. Our Fiano hails from the Clarksburg AVA where it thrives in the rich alluvial soils. The warm afternoons develop fruit aromatics and flavors, while cool evening Delta breezes allow the grapes to retain a crisp acidity. We whole cluster-press the grapes and ferment in neutral oak barrels utilizing native yeast. This fermentation method, along with aging on the lees, allows the wine to develop subtle complexity while showcasing the varietal expression of Clarksburg-grown Fiano.
